Telegraph Expands Rail Telematics Ecosystem with Morey Integration in its Rail Operating System

Telegraph Integrates Morey’s Telematics to Make Railcars Easier to Track

CHICAGO — Telegraph today announced the integration of Morey’s Slap & Track (SNT) into its Rail Operating System (ROS), expanding the tracking options available to customers, and giving them a simple way to see railcar location directly inside the platform they already use.

Telematics provides real-time intelligence that enhances shipment visibility by delivering operational and asset health data, including: GPS location, door status, temperature, battery health, and other sensor readings. This information helps rail shippers improve logistics planning, optimize asset utilization, schedule maintenance, and better manage demurrage. Morey’s SNT attaches directly to a railcar without external power, and can report when the car moves, or at scheduled intervals. That information flows directly into Telegraph, where it can be combined with shipment data, patented predictions from telETATM, and a comprehensive suite of tools to enable customers to manage their rail operations.

“Telematics only creates value when customers can put the data to work. Bringing Morey SNT data into Telegraph expands our rail ecosystem giving multiple telematics options for our customers to use within our ROS,” said Harris Ligon, Co-Founder and CEO of Telegraph.

“Our job is to make it easy to get reliable data from the physical asset,” said Ryne DeBoer, President and CEO of Morey. “Telegraph knows rail and knows what their customers need to make better decisions. We acquire and enable the data, while they turn that information into something useful. It’s a great solution.”

Together, the integration gives rail customers a simpler way to know where their cars are and use that visibility to improve asset utilization, plan maintenance, and better manage demurrage. (For more on how telematics data supports demurrage management, see here.)

The opportunity is significant. Today, roughly 2.5% of North America’s railcars are equipped with telematics hardware. (For more on where adoption stands, see Telegraph’s telematics blog series, part one and part two.) The remaining 97.5% represent the industry’s next opportunity for visibility gains. Together, Morey and Telegraph are making that transition faster to start and easier to scale.
